Generating a License Key

To generate a license key:

  1. Gather the authorization code that you received when youpurchased your license as well as your device serial number.
  2. Go to the Juniper Networks licensing page at:
  3. Enter the device serial number and authorization codein the webpage and click Generate. Depending on the typeof license you purchased, you will receive one of the following responses:
    • License key—If you purchased a perpetual license,you will receive a license key from the licensing management system.You can enter this key directly into the system to activate the featureon your device.
    • License key entitlement—If you purchased a subscription-basedlicense, you will receive a license key entitlement from the licensingmanagement system. You can use this entitlement to validate your licenseon the Juniper Networks licensing server and download the featurelicense from the server to your device.

Downloading License Keys

  1. In the J-Web interface, select Maintain>Licenses.
  2. Under Installed Licenses, click Download Keys to download all the license keys installed on the device to a singlefile.
  3. Select Save it to disk and specify the fileto which the license keys are to be written.

Displaying License Keys in J-Web

To display license keys installed on the device:

  1. In the J-Web interface, select Maintain>Licenses.
  2. Under Installed Licenses, click Display Keys to display all the license keys installed on the device.

    A screen displaying the license keys in text format appears.Multiple licenses are separated by a blank line.

Saving License Keys

  1. From operational mode, save the installed license keysto a file or URL.
    user@host>request system license savefilename | url

For example, the following command saves the installed licensekeys to a file named license.config:

Updating License Keys

  1. From operational mode, do one of the following tasks:

    • Update the license keys automatically.

      Note: The request system license update command willalways use the default Juniper license server https://ae1.juniper.net

      You can only use this command to update subscription-based licenses(such as UTM).

    • Update the trial license keys automatically.

Example: Adding a New License Key

This example shows how to add a new licensekey.

Requirements

Before you begin, confirm that your Junos OS feature requiresyou to purchase, install, and manage a separate software license.

Overview

You can add a license key from a file or URL, from a terminal,or from the J-Web user interface. Use the filename option to activate a perpetual license directly on the device.(Most feature licenses are perpetual.) Use the url to send a subscription-based license key entitlement (suchas UTM) to the Juniper Networks licensing server for authorization.If authorized, the server downloads the license to the device andactivates it.

In this example, the file name is bgp-reflection.

Configuration

CLI Quick Configuration

To quickly configure this section of the example,copy the following commands, paste them into a text file, remove anyline breaks, change any details necessary to match your network configuration,copy and paste the commands into the CLI at the [edit] hierarchylevel, and then enter commit from configuration mode.

From operational mode, you can add a license key in eitherway:

  • From a file or URL:
    user@hostname> request system license addbgp-reflection
  • From the terminal:

To add a new license key:

  1. In the J-Web user interface, select Maintain>Licenses.
  2. Under Installed Licenses, click Add to adda new license key.
  3. Do one of the following, using a blank line to separatemultiple license keys:
    • In the License File URL box, type the fullURL to the destination file containing the license key to be added.
    • In the License Key Text box, paste the licensekey text, in plain-text format, for the license to be added.
  4. Click OK to add the license key.

    Note: If you added the SRX100 Memory Upgrade license, the devicereboots immediately and comes back up as a high-memory device.

  5. Click OK to check your configuration and saveit as a candidate configuration.
  6. If you are done configuring the device, click CommitOptions>Commit.

Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. From operational mode, add a license key in either way:

    • From a file or URL:
      user@host> request system license add bgp-reflection
    • From the terminal:
  2. When prompted, enter the license key, separating multiplelicense keys with a blank line. If the license key you enter is invalid,an error is generated when you press Ctrl-D to exit license entrymode.

    Note: If you added the SRX100 Memory Upgrade license, the devicereboots immediately and comes back up as a high-memory device.

Results

From operational mode, confirm your configuration byentering the show system license command. If the outputdoes not display the intended configuration, repeat the configurationinstructions in this example to correct it.

If you are done configuring the device, enter commit from configuration mode.

Verification

Confirm that the configuration is working properly.

Verifying Installed Licenses

Purpose

Verify that the expected licenses have been installedand are active on the device.

Action

From operational mode, enter the show system license command.

The output shows a list of the licenses used and a list of thelicenses installed on the device and when they expire.

Verifying License Usage

Purpose

Verify that the licenses fully cover the feature configurationon the device.

Action

From operational mode, enter the show system licenseusage command.

The output shows a list of the licenses installed on the deviceand how they are used.

Verifying Installed License Keys

Purpose

Verify that the license keys were installed on thedevice.

Action

From operational mode, enter the show system licensekeys command.

The output shows a list of the license keys installed on thedevice. Verify that each expected license key is present.

Example: Deleting a License Key

This example shows how to delete a license key. Modify bin width for a histogram in excel.

Requirements

Before you delete a license key, confirm that it is no longerneeded.

Results

From configuration mode, confirm your deletion by enteringthe show system license command. The license key you deletedwill be removed. If the output does not display the intended configuration,repeat the configuration instructions in this example to correct it.

If you are done configuring the device, enter commit from configuration mode.
